The Zeal Of A Swindler

Dear Friends,

It seems to me… democrats have gusto, while republicans lack faith. It doesn’t matter what a democrat says, they say it with energy, they believe it to their core and they are willing to die on every mountain. Meanwhile, republicans back down at the first hint of controversy. We are unwilling to fight for our beliefs, and so our beliefs are declining, while the beliefs of the progressive faction within the democrat party are ascendant. Truth, rationality or common sense are irrelevant. The only thing that counts when effecting public opinion is energy. That is why so many have fallen under the spell of snake oil salesmen throughout history. The swindler may be selling a lie, but it sure is a pretty one, told with gusto and one nobody can do without. They have gusto while we lack will.

One common characteristic of a swindler is they have zeal for their product. Any scam artist who lacked charisma, gusto and the ability to lie, would not have a prosperous career in swindling. Those with magnetism, zest and a mouth full of lies, will be quite successful. This holds true of someone selling you the Long Island Ferry, global warming or single payer healthcare. The anatomy of all scams are the same. Someone is selling you a thing they are not capable of delivering. The trick then is to keep you distracted, off balance and greedy. Then, if the swindle is delivered with the proper excitement, at the profit to be made from a toll booth on the Tappan Zee bridge, the Mark is like putty. Of course, with global warming, single payer and the 2020 election, we are the Marks.

The best swindles have a core lie that is surrounded by an impenetrable layer of truth. Rousseau knew this. That is why he is considered an enlightenment philosopher today. He certainly didn’t believe what he preached else he would have lived it. While some of his observations were topical, and even enlightening, his conclusions were utterly wrong. The same holds true of all the really great swindlers of humanity, Marx, Hitler, Mao, etc… they all had gusto for the snake oil they were selling. Moreover, they all sold the same snake oil, under a different label. Pointing out obvious truths, then drawing fallacious conclusions, to manipulate people, very progressive. That is why the most egalitarian, equal and utilitarian nations… have always suffered despotism, famine and crimes against humanity.

One thing that will convince people, aside from the propaganda, is their own personal lives. If our fortunes are on the rise, we are willing to entertain glittering lies, but once those glittering lies fail us, so does their luster. Then we must look at the ugly truths we have been avoiding. It would be nice if everyone could live at the cost of everyone else, but that is a swindle. Who wouldn’t like to be able to magically change from human to elf, then to wolf and back to human? That is a mere manipulation though. Wouldn’t it be great if there was no more war because a global government prevented it? Which is the same snake oil sold by Marx, Hitler and Mao… re branded. As we watch our jobs go away, along with our children’s futures and our freedom, we can be comforted by the public dole and I Phones.

Which means that even though the democrats, (the swindlers), are moving pigs in pokes by the truckload today, due to the results of their policies, the cats will claw their way out of the bags eventually. We see it today with the illegal immigration crisis, the labor market inversion, energy costs skyrocketing, and wages stagnating while inflation goes hyper. Sooner or later, everyone with a brain will have to behold the ugly truth. That we have been swindled. Then we will have to start the hard work of paying off the loan we took out, to buy sea front land in Atlantis. Yup, the progressives have gusto, and that makes all the difference. We lack it, because we are not selling a lie, we are pointing out ugly truths. Sadly, their zeal trumps logic, is magnetic and drains our faith.

Sincerely,

John Pepin

Is it Better to be Coddled or Free?

Dear Friends,

It seems to me, when things are going poorly, children turn to dad to fix it, and when things are going well, they turn to mom to be coddled. Individuals and society are the same. It’s like we have a misery quotient, and if our lives get too good, we do something to create misery for ourselves… by turning to mom. History is rife with examples. Detroit for one. In 1960 Detroit was a hub of innovation. While there were some social issues, for the most part, Detroit was a thriving metropolis. Then the democrats took over. Since they have ruled it, Detroit has become a cesspool of crime, gang violence and poverty, very progressive. It could be argued that the people of Detroit had it too good, so turned to mom to be coddled, and now it has spun out of control, they lack the ability to do anything about it.

Have you ever noticed many, if not most lottery winners, destroy themselves with the money? Instead of becoming people who use money in productive ways, the addition of uncountable wealth gives their worst impulses free reign. Monsters from their, or our ids, arise to wreak havoc our lives. You see this in the children of the idle rich. They create the problems they think they should have. Is there anyone more useless than a trustfunder? Someone incapable of doing anything productive. They cannot even be trusted to keep an appointment if it is a nice day and there are freashies on the slopes. The only difference between trustfunders and the homeless… is wealth. Both sets have equal abilities to handle money, fend for themselves in the world as it is, and maintain themselves.

This is a fundamental flaw in our natures. That we, you and I, are susceptible to. If things are going too well, we do something to disturb it. If it is a flaw in our individual natures, how much is it magnified, in society as a whole? You see this whenever a culture, state or people become too prosperous, healthy and innovative. Their cultural leaders will turn away from what made them great, to absurd ideas, facilitated by their wealth. The Bible warns of Sodom and Gomorrah. That the hedonism came from their great wealth, leisure and idleness. That cautionary tale is lost on most because of the lurid ideas used to narrate that truth. Beware of leisure, wealth and idleness, they lead us to become absurd, stupid and hedonistic. Which can only lead to our downfall.

Nevertheless, whenever things get good, we turn to mom to coddle us in absurdity, idleness and luxury. Ignoring history, canon and common sense. Take our modern wisdom… Why work when the government can coddle you with universal basic income? Why hold to outdated mores when they get in the way of hedonism? Who cares what they teach our kids? Only someone paranoid would be wary of mind control practiced on them. You have to be on Twitter and Facebook. Sexuality is for experimentation not procreation. Burning a city to overthrow the paradigm, is speaking truth to power, while protesting for a return to constitutional rule, is insurrection, etc… would you say these are dad’s philosophies, or Mom’s? Are they based on our foundational ethos or a revolutionary one?

Our childish society, apparently thinks it has it too good, so has turned to mom to be coddled into crisis. With runaway inflation, dropping birthrates, tsunami of illegal immigration, opioid epidemic, rising tide of despotism, collapse of the family, with bread and circuses, the crisis that will make us turn to dad is upon us. I wonder if we will turn to dad, else become like Detroit, and collapse utterly. When a nation is lost in the dark, it is often the cultural leaders that provide the light to navigate. Today they serve to extinguish the light. Once we are immersed in crisis, there will be new cultural leaders, dads, who will emerge. I think we have grown up and are tired of being coddled. We are searching for meaning. I pray our new cultural leaders don’t get canceled… before their lights can shine.

Sincerely,

John Pepin

Education Vouchers

Dear Friends,

It seems to me, those of us who want to help our kids, need to write letters urging our state legislators to offer and support bills creating statewide education vouchers. One ugly truth that 2020 has shown us, is that the US education system is not about educating our children, but indoctrinating them. The more we spend, the worse the outcome. Graduates today cannot read a face clock, cursive writing or a map. New math has taught them that addition and subtraction is too hard for humans… that it is best left to machines. Moreover, their concept of history is viewed through a fun house mirror. The cost to benefit ratio of our education system, gets more and more skewed to higher cost less benefit, every year. Isn’t it time to try something different? Something that will work?

I was watching a Jordan Peterson video the other day, when the guy he was interviewing, Theodore Darlymple said, “It costs the British taxpayer 100,000 pounds to educate someone in England…” and they are essentially ignorant after that astounding amount of money is spent. How pathetic is that? Twelve years of schooling for 100k. That is 8k a year. Imagine what the private sector could do with that money? Create schools dedicated to the advancement of the student, not the educator’s wealth, leisure and hedonism. The students that would benefit the most would be those from poor families. Private schools catering to troubled youths could clean up… and save those kids in the process. Instead of wasting that talent, poor kids would be pulled into society and become a benefit to us all.

The Wuhan flu panic and subsequent school shutdowns illustrated, in neon, that the public school system does not care a whit about the kids. From the first days of the CCPandemic every report has said children are not susceptible. They do not get it, they do not pass it and they are not a threat to gran. Despite the science being unassailable, our political leaders, media and NEA conspired to steal a year of education from our children. Did they reimburse a penny of taxes in the districts where the schools were shut down? Of course not! Taxes probably went up! They failed utterly, and the consequence was a year off, with pay, and a raise. If I had been rewarded so handsomely by my failures I would be the richest man on Earth. Doesn’t that suggest we need to find a better way to educate the tots?

The NEA, and indeed the entire education establishment, will counter that under a voucher system, the public schools would lose the “good students” and be stuck with the “bad students.” Others will argue, the public school system would lose so many students, they would cease to exist. Still another argument against education vouchers, is that they would pigeon hole students, instead of give general education. The first argument, classing students as “good” or “Bad,” is, on its face, an attack on the students. Anyone with that attitude shouldn’t be anywhere near education. The second, based on the existence of the public schools, is premised on the notion the children exist to serve the schools, backwards thinking if you ask me. The last, anti specialization, argues against the division of labor.

You may rightfully ask, “Sounds great, my kids would get a great education, taxes wouldn’t go up as much and they wouldn’t be indoctrinated… but how am I supposed to get this done? I am a little guy. They won’t listen to me. Especially since the NEA gets to use my tax money to lobby congress.” All it takes is, talking to your neighbors, writing a letter to your county representative, senator and governor. Then encourage others to do so as well. Your letter all by itself will do little to change the corrupted minds, of people addicted to avarice, but a few will give them pause, a stream will make them shudder and a river will drown their resolve for corrupt NEA money. Even democrats can be swayed, if they get enough letters demanding state education vouchers. Add your letters… I sent mine the other day.

Sincerely,

John Pepin

The Next Boogeyman

Dear Comrades,

It seems to me, while we dedicated socialist zealots only make up around ten percent of the population, we can and will continue to win, with our trident strategy… fear, cancel culture and vote fraud. The first, fear, allows us to oppress as we see fit. The second, cancel culture, is a swindle to control the narrative and make our victims think we are the majority, as did our glorious forefather, Lenin. The last, vote fraud, cements the lie in the minds of those we plan to oppress, that we are the majority, forever. While this strategy has served us well, and butchered many a conservative, it may be growing long in the tooth. Primarily due to dwindling anxiety among the sheep. Constant fear mongering of our media worked for 2020, but we need a new source of ethereal terror for 2021, and beyond.

It is best not to use the same strategy on an enemy twice in a row, so a disease is out, even though our minion Fauci, has a few more in the wings. Perhaps send a trial balloon up, a new strain of bird flu, and see how that flies. We can try that but the hoi polloi might be getting wise to us. Those who allowed it slip, we were killing grandma and grandpa to gin up the numbers, will pay. Pay dearly. We have to make them examples so no one else will report the truth again. We already see it with the knowledge of the Sars 2 Covid 19 creation becoming allowed. How did that happen? These failures, will be punished, like all evil organizations punish failure… with piranha. All of which has made our using another lab grown disease, to strike terror into the hearts of the people, inconvenient… for now.

The new dread we create, need not be reasonable or even sane, in fact, the fear we choose should be ludicrous. So when people are forced to knuckle under, the inner humiliation of knowing they are bending to absurdity will be all the more dehumanizing… like people who are still wearing masks! They have to, else accept they are dupes! The chumps! We can recruit future death camp guards from those dupes. They can form the core of our new mindless mob. I propose we look into what makes them scared at night. Then husband, nurse and gently encourage it, with the media, academia and the administrative state, into a full blown panic. I know, some of you are still mad, that global warming has turned cold. We were not acidic enough with our censorship. Some still believe their own eyes.

Don’t fret fellow villains, we have not abandoned Anthropogenic Climate Change, that is a hoax we plan to ride into global despotism. While those who live in reality are harder to convince, people who live in a fantasy, are as easily manipulated as ever. Which means we still have the minds, spirits and souls of the idle rich.. especially third generation and beyond. They are so stupid, they think flying a private jet to a global warming conference, with a shopping stopover in Paris and lunch in Madrid… helps the planet. All we have to do to keep the tap open is manipulate the little people into eating bugs. That should make the idle rich happy. Nothing makes fillet magnon taste better than knowing everyone else has to eat bugs. Climate change hysteria is the way to get the 99.99% to eat them. For the planet.

Perhaps a UFO scare? That is sufficiently absurd, ethereal and un-testable. The reason the government didn’t release the information before, was to keep the people from panicking. Since blind panic is what we want… the answer seems obvious. Claim aliens are flying around our top secret bases, all the time, they are unstoppable, and have hostile intent. Then the hoi polloi will beg us to oppress them! Moo Ha Ha! For now, my corrupt allies in legacy media, academia and bureaucracy, keep up the fear mongering, silence those goody two shoes truth tellers, and keep up the lies! We will be rolling out the next boogeyman soon… soon my friends, soon. There is nothing we will not do for power, no bridge we will not cross, then burn! Let’s chant together, “Tyranny, enmity and poverty for the masses, Forever!”

Sarcastically,

John Pepin

Our Amazing Elite

Dear Friends,

It seems to me, our elite are amazing people, having evolved beyond cognitive dissonance. Their absolute outrage at slavery, practiced by those who outlawed it before they outlawed it, is given context, character and texture, by the fact they have no problem whatsoever, with modern day slavery. In fact, they create the conditions for it, (as in Libya), protect those engaged in it, (as in the US southern boarder), and actively participate, (Epstein’s protected pedophile clientele). Obviously they are mad that Western civilization outlawed it. When the elite became enraged and sent a dozen FBI agents to investigate a tangled rope, for racist undertones, while ignoring the Biden lap top, the Russia collusion hoax perpetrators and 2020 election fraud, the FBI might as well be Duncan doughnuts.

Why let a little hypocrisy bother you anyway? If they are benefiting from it, a justifying person would be comforted, not disquieted. If you seek to rule the world and run the economy, as rationally as possible, you have to rationalize. Now, when someone knows they are doing, what they are doing… for the benefit of mankind, that knowledge goes a long way to reassuring themselves… they benefit. They might have to break a few eggs, too bad for the eggs, but if you want broken eggs… The combination of self aggrandizement, wealth and power, give them the sure knowledge they are doing what is best… for the social order. What could be better than to rule by orders then? Especially by Great Men, who have no shame, morality or humanity, people capable of making the hard decisions.

No matter how they evolved, beyond normal humanity, that upgrade has given them amazing abilities. The ability to lie to our faces, only smirking rarely, to manipulate children into self harm, for fun and profit, while relieving themselves on the very edifice that gives them authority in the first place. Then using our Constitution to wipe up after. While a toddler can lie, even a toddler cannot maintain outrageous lies forever. Not like our elite. They are special. They are clever too. Imagine, setting up a system, where the worse you make it, the more power you are given? That is genius, psychopathic, but genius. The simple diabolical notion being, a political faction that “serves” the poor and downtrodden, must make sure there are always plenty of poor and downtrodden. Like a tennis ball machine… balls.

Today’s elite are truly epitomize Thrasymachus the sophist’s Great Men. Thrasymachus famously said justice is a trick the Great Men play on the little men. Where the Great Men want to rule, start wars, and rape women, the little men only want to live their lives, raise a family and contribute to society. “Justice” is the swindle that holds the little men down and calls their subjugation “just.” Because, according to Thrasymachus and our Great Men leaders today, justice is whatever the elite say it is. Making it not a standard but a tool of two year olds. People with the cunning intellect of a toddler. Our elite today are so astoundingly good at manipulating people into self harm, their policies create a steady stream of trans slaves. Raping normal women has lost its luster for them… they have evolved.

They really are something… the elite. In a sane world they would be in prison, in ours, they make the world a prison, they run. Very progressive. We have, continue to, and will do nothing to prevent monsters, capable of anything, to have power over us and our children. Because it is too hard for us to write a letter, lead by example or even stand up to social media. It is much easier to watch our children tricked into self sterilization to be a sex toy for a pedophile, die of fentanyl overdose, and be bequeathed a world far diminished from the one we were. We really are little men in every sense of the term. While our leaders are great men, in the most despicable sense of that term. Brain reset Nancy Pelosi, dementia Joe Biden and plastic Kamala walk into a bar.. so it opens.

Sincerely,

John Pepin

An Inquiry Into The Collective Unconscious

Dear Friends,

It seems to me, it might be wise to break up Jung’s “collective unconscious,” into the species unconscious, animal unconscious and the greater unconscious. Traditionally, we think of the collective unconscious as being a species unconscious, but what of it extends much deeper than that? If we accept the research of Rupert Sheldrake, then we have to consider such possibilities. Whether or not we accept his conclusions. What if there were some deeper way humans, animals and even all life itself communicated? The implications are astounding. One of which is intelligent design… by the species itself. Pandas for example. Another is that we are all connected to everything, as the shaman, seers and priests say. If true, it implicates us in a scheme that is far greater than anything we can conceive of.

There is anecdotal evidence that ideas sweep the world at the same time, regardless of place, culture and even communication. An early example would be Mencius’ Golden Mean and Aristotle’s Golden Mean. They are amazingly similar, even when translated into English, although they came from opposite sides of the planet, from different cultures and peoples, at roughly the same time… ~350BC. That is but one of numerous examples in the annuls of human history. Which implies, to anyone with an open mind, that there is indeed some connection between people. To name it, one could call it collective unconscious, as Jung did. To produce such examples though, it must be someway contemporary, making that connection less likely to be some form of instinct.

Unless it is a form of instinct. A form that evolves across people, cultures and place. Implying again, that it is not local, cultural or race related, but a species wide phenomenon. However, Rupert Sheldrake has cited some experiments that claim, if a rat is taught a maze… and the learning curve is plotted. Subsequent rats of the same species will learn that maze faster. Not a generation later, but in real time, apparently disqualifying instinct. He further asserts that a rat of the same species will learn the maze faster even on the other side of the planet. He even went on that rats of different types will learn it faster albeit at a diminished rate. Further implying that there is a connection across species. (Within rats anyway). I should think this would be a rich field of research, if our philosophy allowed it.

What is the likelihood, that all members of a species are psychically connected, but species are not interconnected in the same way? I would say if the one is true, the other is probably true as well. Then, if species are interconnected, wouldn’t that add up to a greater unconscious? There is ample evidence that people of the same family, even when distant, know when a loved one is in distress. Most families have such lore. This suggests the closer we are, in spirit, the more powerful the interconnection, and the further we are apart, the weaker the interconnection. My beloved dogs were shot once, because they ran off and strayed onto a psychopath’s land. That day I knew something bad had happened. I felt it in my heart. Then Lily showed up with a bullet in her… That was not a species but a spirit connection.

If there is such a thing as a collective unconscious, species unconscious and greater unconscious, I would think it would behoove us to discover the mechanism for it. Maybe such knowledge is outside the sphere of our ability but perhaps not. When man first considered how to understand the natural world, he was dismayed at the complexity, opaqueness and subtlety, as we are the complexity, subtlety and mystery of consciousness, unconscious and waking… let alone a collective or greater unconscious. Nevertheless, our fortunes advanced along with our understanding of the natural world, imagine how much our fortunes would advance, if we started to understand the “supernatural” world. The trouble is, we don’t know, what we don’t know, so how our lives would improve, is unknowable. Until we learn.

Sincerely,

John Pepin

Are We Individuals or Groups

Dear Friends,

It seems to me, we are all different, and the same, and it is in those places where we are the same, that we connect. The wise ignore as best they can the differences that tear us apart. There are aspects of our personalities that overlap with someone apparently utterly different. That overlap, even if small, is a place where we can connect. Once we have connected, as individuals, we can blend in those places where we differ. If you understand what I am saying, it is obvious why grouping people is a fools errand. Because any definition of a group, where some arbitrary attribute overlaps, is not necessarily meaningful. Moreover, people that are alike in one aspect are probably very different in others. Meaning, when we limit individuals to a group, we limit individuals.

That is why the mental framework of seeing people as right or left is so deeply flawed. How can any definition that is not only mercurial, but actually flips every now and then, be at all useful? It is not. It is in fact harmful. Instead of informing us, it distracts, dumbs down and warps us. In 1910, a US progressive was pragmatic not idealistic, he or she was also left leaning, nationalistic, racist, eugenicist and pro war. Today their philosophy has not changed at all… except that they are no longer nationalist or pragmatic, since socialism has been proven to be economic, social and cultural poison… They are now idealists, clinging to a belief that if they get absolute power, they can usher in utopia… where everyone else failed so utterly before. That mental framework is attractive, understandable and flawed.

A better mental framework might be to see people as people. Your favorite color might be red, a hideous color, and anyone who favors it should be ostracized… or not. Instead, focus on where we agree first, then, once we have mutual respect, we can discuss those things we disagree on. It is more dramatic to look at where we disagree, and so more exciting, but less profitable. Let us not become like the people in the Emo Phillips joke, who agree on everything, so fight to the death over a tiny disagreement. So we have something to fight over I suppose. Nevertheless, where the elite try to separate us into groups, those groups necessarily are arbitrary. Grouping random people based on race, religion, or toe nail fungus status, ignores the myriad of ways we are the same.

We have become so polarized because we are following our leaders, but in this day and age, we need not. We have progressed beyond the need to be ruled. Grouping us and pitting those groups against each other, like in the Star Trek Episode, Gamesters Of Triskelion, is a means to usurp control. They honestly believe they can make every decision for everyone, better than we can ourselves, and so they group us to that end. Clutching at an economy, culture and people, is like grabbing smoke. No matter how well it appears to be in hand, when you close your fist, you find it has metamorphosed into a different shape. Because humanity itself is an emergent phenomenon, out of the complex system that is, the human condition. Like a brain in a dish… the graspers don’t understand this fact.

It is only by applying our innate humanity, to humanity at large, that we can really be civilized, mature and sovereign human beings. Grouping people, especially with the intent of ostracizing them, is the opposite of human hearted. Although it is easy to become trapped in the flawed mindset of categorizing people, we must try not to, doing so only serves those who would separate us into warring factions, to their own diabolical ends. They are graspers. People who grasp at power and group us to help them achieve it. The solution is to engage with people as people, individuals as individual and human to human, not as race versus race. The first is a win win, while the second is a lose lose. Only fools choose a lose lose, when a win win is available… and know about it.

Sincerely,

John Pepin

Oppressed Oppressor Theory

Dear Friends,

It seems to me, when you teach there are only two categories of people, the oppressed and the oppressors, every self interested person would try to get into the oppressor category. What fool would want to become the oppressed? Leading to everyone oppressing everyone. As that attitude becomes more widespread, every endeavor will become tainted by it. Instead of reciprocity every situation would become a win lose con game. Removing a valuable philosophy from our toolkit. This would eliminate the teamwork, collaboration and compromise, that economies, governments and societies need. Which makes the philosophy that ignores the individual, instead treating individuals as groups, that are oppressed and oppressors, a throwback. A reversion to an ancient less civilized tribal era.

We see the results of the oppressed oppressor mindset in government today. In the last year we have experienced things that a decade ago people would never believe could happen in the US. Open election fraud, the George Floyd riots, and the unconstitutional actions of our elite to “fight” the Wuhan flu, all done in the name of “justice.” Our politicians, media and corporations have adopted the oppressor oppressed mindset, and clearly, they seek to be in the oppressor category. Who could blame them? Instead of trying to cooperate, and solve the problems that led to George Floyd’s death, the elite went all in on street violence. Then they stood on the ruins of the icons their minions had ripped down, and with righteous fury they declared, finally, the oppressor got a taste of his own medicine!

The oppressors they were talking about are the small business people they burned out, churches they shut down and minority neighborhoods they decimated. Yes, the oppressors payed a heavy price for their oppression. As the little guy took it on the chin… the billionaire class got much richer. Further promoting justice, the justice of the oppressed oppressing the oppressor, by proxy. Obviously, when the oppressors are being oppressed, the government doing the oppression must be protected from the rabble they are oppressing… which is why they rung Washington DC with two National Guard divisions. A natural consequence of the oppressor oppressed mindset taking hold. Why cooperate, to get what you want, when oppressing oppressors from behind a wall of troops, is easier?

The market system is based on the philosophical innovation of economic advancement by helping others. Like Adam Smith said in his seminal work, The Wealth of Nations, when you want a cut of meat, you don’t apply to the butcher’s sense of charity, you appeal to his sense of self interest. Every aspect of a market system requires trust, earnest effort and agreement. None of which can exist under a paradigm of an oppressed oppressor mindset. A diminished economic outcome is the price those selling the throwback philosophy are willing, for others, to pay. Because of course, they shouldn’t pay, they are doing yeoman’s work, in oppressing the traditional oppressors, to create a more just world. A world where people may live in hunger, fear and despotism… but where the oppressors are oppressed.

A more nuanced view of the throwback philosophy, that rejects cooperation, man-to-manness and grand narratives, would be to recognize that is how a psychopath sees the world. Why would any sane person adopt the worldview of a psychopath? Even stone age people understood cooperation. Isn’t it ironic then, that information age people are rejecting it, culturally, politically and economically? Which brings me to my last point, science can only advance, and maintain that advance, in a cooperative system. A confrontational system, like the one created by oppressor oppressed theory, cannot even keep the knowledge it has, let alone advance. You might want to point these things out to your kids… and to the next zealot pushing oppressed oppressor philosophy on you.

Sincerely,

John Pepin

Reconciling Science With Religion

Dear Friends,

It seems to me, we are stuck, as a society, scientifically and politically, until we manage to harmonize religion with science. It is not such a stretch, but there are too many with a vested interest in keeping our outdated paradigm, where science and religion are at odds. A more mature view of both, would be to integrate them by recognizing there are things that science cannot teach us, and probably never will. Truths so deep they only lend themselves to the narrative format. Truths that can only be told by religion. Insight into the complex systems that we live in. Science is constantly looking for the Mount Fuji answer. The simplified equation that solves all our problems. Complexity does not lend itself to simple answers, no, reality is far too messy for that. To solve some problems… we need religion.

Science has answered questions that religion couldn’t and never could. Because at their cores they are utter opposites. While they both seek truth, the means, method and truths sought, are far different. Science is sensory while religion and indeed morality is intuitive. Morality and religion arise from the collective unconscious. They hint at truths just out of sight, hearing and touch, yet those truths are every bit as profound as Einstein’s Relativity and Special Relativity. More so if you count the effect on human lives. People need something to believe in, and since science has answered questions religion couldn’t, many worship science. That is obviously foolhardy, because science is all about rationally sensing the universe, and not about understanding it on an intuitive spiritual level.

Science has proved itself to be a paradigm change in the way we view the world, but there are other equally valid ways of seeing it. The capitalist thinks within a market oriented mental framework, as the scientist uses the scientific method and the lawyer thinks like a lawyer. None is more valid than the other, because we live in a complex system, and to manage the changing landscapes each of us travels through, we must use the most effective path. The scientist uses the scientific method, the lawyer the legal mindset, as the electrician thinks in electrical terms and uses electrician jargon. To believe that the scientific method is the only valid way to see the world, then use Cartesian skepticism to discount the religious, is like when Mo Ti wanted music outlawed. The sensory at war with intuition.

God may exist and he may not exist, moreover, God may exist but be far different than what people envision him to be, nevertheless, our religious texts reveal deep understandings. Concepts who’s truth is only revealed when intentionally abused. Thinking pragmatically, a form of the scientific method, when looking at the twentieth century’s attempts to escape religion, human suffering was manufactured on an industrial scale. Moreover, it is in our nature to believe in something. When our religion is removed, we fill that void with absurdity. As we see stone aged beliefs come back into vogue. Moreover, those who have neolithic ideas, deride Christianity, as an outmoded iron age device. All the while lacking the self awareness to see the irony in their statements, attitude and “insight.”

If we manage to reconcile Christianity, Judaism and the other major religions, with science, it would open up the next age of human understanding. Instead of applying the scientific method to religion and morality, why not keep science in its lane? Part of this integration is to have morality play a bigger part in science though. Not all knowledge is useful nor helpful. Some is corrosive to the psyche, soul and humanity. The flavor of snorted heroin for example. Other knowledge is uplifting, inspiring and useful. The insight that religion gives us allows us to discern the difference. Instead of wasting time researching that which lowers us, why not spend that talent learning something, uplifting? Efficiency is only one example of how humanity would advance… if we could harmonize science with religion,

Sincerely,

John Pepin

The Value of Stuff

Dear Friends,

It seems to me, the main difference between humans and animals… is our stuff. We make stuff, use stuff and keep stuff, while at best animals make a tool for one use only. Moreover, stuff is more than just things, it is ideas and knowledge as well. We are huge collectors of stuff, and in the end, it is that capacity, the desire to keep stuff, that truly separates us from the animals. They claim whales are smarter than folks, yet they don’t fly to the Moon. Why? Because they don’t have the stuff to. That’s why. Plus, if they were that smart, wouldn’t they keep stuff too? What about some birds. They are smart enough to use stuff, but not wise enough to keep it for later. What if that crow runs across another worm in a soda bottle? Having that piece of eye poking wire would come in pretty handy.

We started keeping stuff probably during the wood age, or at the latest, the bone age. By the stone age we were well versed in keeping stuff. A family in the wood age probably didn’t have much stuff. Stone age people must have looked at bone aged people with the same contempt we give iron aged people. Contempt is all well and good, from an ivory tower, but take three random people, one from the stone age, another from the iron age and the last from the space age, drop them alone and naked in a tropical jungle, and see who does best. My guess is, the stone age guy would excel, while the iron age guy would survive, and the space age guy wouldn’t last the night. Why? He has no stuff. The iron age guy doesn’t need much stuff. While the stone age dude can make the stuff he needs.

Stuff allows us to do stuff. The means of production if you will. For a neolithic man, stuff was a choice chunk of flint, while for a bronze age farmer, it might have been a bronze hoe. The wealthy bronze age farmer would have a bronze hoe, while the poor bronze age farmer would still have used a rock tied to a stick. Even in that instance, it is clear that the bronze age farmer with the bronze hoe, would be more efficient in his farming, leading to bigger crops in the aggregate, and thus to a higher standard of living. Not only for him and his family but for society as a whole. Due to his selling his extra stuff. So, from that we can deduce that stuff makes our lives better, by making our work more efficient. Because, lets face it, its hard to get stuff done, if you don’t have the stuff to do it.

Of course, keeping stuff does have its drawbacks. Like the legendary George Carlin said, houses are just a place to keep our stuff, with a lid on it. As we grow to need more stuff, to maintain our standard of living, it becomes ever more important to protect our stuff. If an iron age carpenter’s stuff was stolen, he and his family were in deep trouble. That stuff is how he makes money, and without it, he has no way to replace it. The more we grow technologically, the more efficient, and thus more valuable our stuff becomes. With value comes the risk of theft, destruction or loss. So, the more stuff we have, the more it costs us, to keep it safe. While the wood age man didn’t have much stuff and all of it could be gathered from the ground, so he didn’t worry much about theft, the bronze age man did.

From this we can say that it is our stuff that sets us apart. Since we constantly make it, improve it and hoard stuff, and no other animal does. An argument could be made, that it is the keeping of stuff that forced us to make many philosophic leaps. To keep stuff, you have to understand cause and effect, ownership, and strategic thinking. Stuff takes some investment, not only in acquiring it, but of holding it, protecting it and maintaining it. Nevertheless, it is our stuff that allows us to have the standard of living we do. Who would argue, “Drop me naked in a wilderness and in a hour I’ll live like an upper middle class twenty first century Parisian. Heck, It shouldn’t take me more than ten minutes to figure out how to make penicillin…” or would it? You see, it is our stuff that makes it all possible.

Sincerely,

John Pepin
