Islamism, Russia, NATO and WWIII

Monday, December 21st, 2015

Dear Friends,

It seems to me, if you beat a dog over and over, it will eventually become vicious, then to justify further beatings because the dog has become vicious is just plain evil. Russia is a nation that has been invaded many times and every time has lost a huge percentage of their population, had their economy devastated, industry burned and lost more liberty in the reconquering of their land. In short, Russia has been beaten time and time again, so now the Russian people have become vicious, and now our leaders claim we need to beat them since they are vicious? During the Cold War, global Marxism needed to be challenged and defeated, since the primary global sponsor of Marxism at the time was the USSR, NATO was an alliance that had utility. Today, global Marxism has moved into our own governments and universities and so NATO has lost it’s utility, but the elite want to keep the alliance growing, not to stem Marxism as it was intended, but to advance it.

To the Russians, NATO is a knife at their throat. They rightly see NATO as another approaching invasion force. Since they have become all to accustomed to invasion from the west they are rightly nervous about a growing NATO. As the buffer around them, that the monster Stalin built after WWII, shrinks and NATO gets ever closer to their boarder, Russia will inevitably become more belligerent. It is human nature. They see NATO has lost it’s stated purpose, to stop the spread of global Marxism, and is scratching around for a replacement. That is why Ukraine is at war with Russia, Russia took two territories from Georgia and the Russia people love Putin. All because of the deep genetic fear that their history has ingrained in the Russians.

Russia is not all daffodils and honeycombs. Russia is no different than other countries in it’s use of evil to achieve it’s goals. After the 1917 revolution the Marxists who ran the Soviet Union marched across all their neighbors. Soviet armies marched west conquering the Baltic States, east and south subjugating Ukraine, Georgia, and central Asia. Before Germany invaded the USSR in operation Barbarossa, the Soviet army had attacked Finland driving that Norse nation into the Axis. The crimes of Russia, especially during the Soviet period were heinous, and were more about expanding Marxism than protecting their boarders. The fall of the Soviet Union however changed the paradigm on the planet, to the chagrin of the new class intellectuals, Marxism had been proved a failed system.

Gorbachev and then Yeltsin moved Russia into the world community, they allowed the vassal states to cede and they opened the Russian economy to capitalism. This angered the intellectuals even more. That their chosen system had failed as bad enough, but adding insult to injury, the sponsor of their system had become a turn coat and embraced the hated capitalism. That is why instead of helping Russia overcome it’s transitional pains, the West turned the screws on Russia. The new class elite, who had always thought the USSR would win the cold war, despised the new Russia.

Meanwhile the elite had this powerful military alliance they had built for decades to defeat the USSR, and their enemy had simply crumbled from economic malaise. Loathe to disassemble that which had taken so long to build the leaders of NATO scratched around for a new mission for it. In keeping with the old axiom, the leaders of today always prepare for the last war, they retained NATO and even expanded NATO’s mission. Gobbling up nations, ever closer and closer to Russia, NATO went from containment to aggression. Every time another country would join NATO, the Russian people, out of a deep sense of historical perspective, would become more nervous.

Today, the US and Europe are in the unenviable position of defending the Islamic State against Russian attacks. Our tax dollars and military assets are being used to protect people who are committing Genocide against Christians, Jews and Yazidis. Our military machine is defending those who are raping little girls in ritual fashion and our children are put in harm’s way to stop the Russian’s from bombing monsters. Out of their blind lust for power, ideological hatred of Russia for proving Marxism a failed system and their backward mindset of fighting the last war, our leaders have put us squarely on the wrong side of history and human heartedness.

The former Soviet state have every right to be able to defend themselves from Russia, who they rightly see as a threat to their sovereignty, but expanding NATO, an existential threat to Russia, was not the way to do it. Missile defense systems, arms sales and strong diplomacy would have achieved the result without antagonizing Russia. Moreover, NATO should have been disbanded immediately after the breakup of the Soviet Union. Our leaders have failed us over and over but this failure could lead to world war, and indeed it appears we are on the cusp of world war. Instead of alienating a potential ally wouldn’t it be a more intelligent move to embrace the Russians, and ask Russia to join the European Union, (although I sincerely doubt they would given the way Europe is on a mission to commit suicide), bringing Russia into the West?

The people there have suffered a century of Marxist tyranny, they have withstood multiple invasions from the West and they have persevered. The Russian people are tough and pragmatic, but have been kicked over and over, and so have become wary. Sure Putin might be an ass, although I have never met the man, but the Russian people deserve respect, even admiration. The same people that told us not to offend the USSR as it was tyrannizing it’s own people, are telling us now to be aggressive with Russia, and coddle the Islamists. Perhaps even the war in the Ukraine could be stopped, if instead of putting a dagger to Russia’s throat, we disbanded NATO.

Russia is like a dog that has been kicked too much, but is there any question that in a fight, the guy with a dog on his side will almost always emerge victorious? We have to ask ourselves, what do we want to happen in the world? Do we want war with Russia to defend the Islamists? Do we want Ukraine to keep bleeding? Or do we want to defeat the Islamists who are slaughtering their way across the globe, invading Europe and will soon take up Nazi Germany’s role in world history? Do we want to restore Ukraine to peace and prosperity? What we do, or more to the point, what our leaders do, will answer those questions.

Sincerely,

Solving Ukraine’s Problems

Thursday, December 18th, 2014

Dear Friends,

It seems to me, Ukraine’s situation is rapidly deteriorating, impoverishing it’s citizens and pushing the breakaway areas with war and the threat of war. What a sad state of affairs for people who, because of their geologic location, have taken it on the chin over and over. The political system is broken beyond repair with whomever is in power crushing any opposition at will. There is no effective protections for freedom of speech, assembly or conscience. The people of Ukraine deserve much better. Every nation on the planet could learn a thing or two, how not to run a country, from Ukraine’s example. There are answers to the thorny problems Ukraine faces, but unfortunately, real solution are being ignored for war and arbitrary power.

Ukraine’s history is one of invasion, violence and tyranny. From the dawn of history Ukraine has been invaded by empire makers. The Mongol invasions were particularly hard on the people, with whole cities raised to the ground, every man woman and child killed, even the dogs, cats and livestock! Tamerlane slaughtered the Ukrainian people with the glee of a demon. When the Soviet union controlled Ukraine, Stalin stole the food the Ukrainians had grown themselves, selling it on the world market, starving to death millions of human beings! The poor Ukrainian people have suffered for centuries under the heavy hand of sadistic invaders and despots. It is past time for those sturdy people to have a measure of freedom and prosperity.

President Petro Pososhenco continues in the footsteps of the man he deposed. Instead of ushering in an era of peace and prosperity he has turned to war and autocracy. While it is only human to want revenge for grievances suffered, when a politician does it, the lot of the whole people is lowered. Today the Ukrainian central bank is broke with all of Ukraine’s gold stolen. The war with separatists sporadically flaring up, and now with US lethal aid going to Ukraine, the likelihood of a shooting war with Russia becomes a real possibility. Crimea is lost to Russia, for now, and the Eastern cities are in the hands of separatists, which would be a blow to any sovereign nation. Sadly, Ukraine is used to blows, and is likely punch drunk.

A better option, in my humble opinion, would be to sign a peace accord granting the breakaway areas autonomy, as long as they don’t formally become part of Russia. This would stop the bleeding, both of human blood and economic red ink. War is never a good option especially when there is an alternative. Of course it take two for peace and only one for war, with the Russian Ruble in free fall, the Russian people looking at hyper inflation and the Russian economy collapsing, war becomes more probable, since war is a traditional way to make patriots of starving people. Nothing rallies a people like a rip snorting war. Granting the breakaway areas autonomy would take the possibility of outright war off the table.

The next thing Ukraine should do is get their political house in order. To that end, I have advocated for all nations, including Ukraine, a NUMA or Fourth Branch. It would chain the lawmakers to their own laws and Constitutional limits. Of course the Fourth Branch option would require a Constitutional rewrite. If done right such a rewrite would have many beneficial effects. The US Constitution should be the basis of any new Ukrainian Constitution… with the addition of a NUMA. A Constitution that strictly limits the role, scope and power of government, would allow the free market to do it’s thing. For a better explanation see an excerpt from my last blog here.

If these two things were done Ukraine’s economy would start flourishing. The Ukrainian people are smart, hard working and risk takers, all of which are essential to a rapidly growing economy. Until the war is ended, and the government retreats to it’s rightful role, the Ukrainian economy cannot possibly get on solid footing. If the economy of Ukraine becomes dynamic, the gross domestic product per person would skyrocket, or in other words, the Ukrainian people would see prosperity they could have only dreamed of before. Once that happens the breakaway areas will almost certainly petition the Ukrainian government to allow them back in. Self interest trumps all other considerations. Ukraine could slowly rebuild itself without the exigencies and ruin that protracted wars always bring on. This would be a peace and prosperity based solution to the fundamental problems of Ukraine. Wise leaders would take the path of peace and prosperity, while foolish ones, war and poverty… Let’s pray the leaders of Ukraine are wise and not foolish.

Sincerely,

John Pepin

Weakness Begets War

Monday, April 14th, 2014

Dear Friends,

It seems to me… weakness always begets war. The Ukrainian crisis illustrates the weakness of the West in negotiations with Russia, brought about by the fecklessness and stupidity of our leaders. One point I have not heard anyone else make, yet, is that the US is dependent on Russia for access to space and the International Space station. The US cannot impose economic sanctions on Russia without consequence unlike Iran or North Korea. Couple that with the fact that Europe is dependent on Russian natural gas, and the entire West is effectively castrated, seriously limiting the ability of the US to put leverage on Russia. So, the fact is there is nothing really stopping Russia, from doing whatever they want… potentially leading to World War.

Europe needs Russian natural gas because, while they have plenty of natural gas under their own feet, they are unwilling to get it out. The new fracking technology has opened up millions of cubic feet of natural gas but the environmental weenies in Europe, (backed by Russia), bar them from getting it. Nuclear technology is off the table for the same reason. This policy has delivered Europe into the hands of Putin. The Arab Spring and Syrian civil war has also closed off another avenue of potential natural gas into Europe… the proposed gas pipeline from the Middle East. Both the abandoned gas pipeline and the reluctance of European leaders to open up their own natural resources has made Europe into a vassal state of Russia.

The US, by accepting dependence on Russia for access to the International Space Station, has put that very expensive experiment into the hands of Russia. Should the US government level sanctions on Russia for annexing the Crimea, Russia can simply stop bringing American astronauts to the space station, effectively taking that hardware over, along with most of Ukraine. The US has always been the leader in space exploration in my lifetime but now has taken a back seat. Doing so puts all the billions of dollars we have invested in space infrastructure, technology and knowledge base in jeopardy. Not only that, but now that we rely on Russia for access to the trillion dollar space station, they have a pretty big card to play should the US government get too feisty

Putin is taking a play from Hitler’s playbook, and is ginning up more protests in Eastern Ukraine, ala Czechoslovakia 1939, in his continuing crusade to conquer Eastern Ukraine. Hitler claimed he would invade Czechoslovakia, to “protect” the Germanic people there, (like Putin is exploiting the Russians in Ukraine), unless the European powers caved and signed over the only democratic republic in Europe at the time. That little gambit gave hundreds of Czechoslovakian tanks into Hitler’s hands. Neville Chamberlain did, and the rest is the violent history of WWII, violence that resulted in 60 million human beings dead. Hitler had even less bargaining power then, than Putin does now.

The upshot is, Ronald Reagan was right… again. Reagan warned about the dangers of Europe becoming dependent on Russia for natural gas. Now our President has so weakened the US, not only in military power, but economic and space as well, the US has become a paper tiger. Europe is cowed by Putin’s outmaneuvering, and so cannot mount any defense of themselves, let alone the sovereign integrity of Ukraine. China has it’s own expansionist goals as well, so they are going to sit back and see how this all plays out, endangering all of eastern Asia. Yes, Poland, Georgia, the Baltic Republics, Europe are facing imminent danger. Indeed the whole world is entering a very dangerous place. All because our leaders have been stupid, lax and selfish. Woe to us if this episode in human history works out as bad as it did before. Weakness always begets war, it is a fact of human history, and our leaders have made us weak.

Sincerely,

The Honor System

Sunday, March 30th, 2014

Dear Friends,

It seems to me, the political elite only pledge to follow our various Constitutions, but are not forced to. This is nothing more than an honor system. To place such responsibility in the hands of so few without any real oversight, is not only dangerous, but it is unfair to them. The lessons of history are unanimous about this. Every nation, republic, democracy and empire has fallen due to corruption. Corruption stemming from both basic human nature, (self interest), and political favor. The fundamental problem in Ukraine that led to the loss of Crimea to Russia, was government corruption, the poor performance of the economy despite huge the energy reserves of Russia, is from government corruption, the present constitutional crisis in the US, is from government corruption… the list is endless. The point is, to change the paradigm to one that actually works in the interests of the people and the elite, is to force the political elite to follow the limits placed on them, in our Constitutions. Lacking that fundamental shift in governance, we can expect to see history repeat itself over and over again, resulting in war, unrest, famine and poverty.

Imagine a society where there are laws but everyone is on the honor system to follow them. The deaths simply from traffic accidents would be daunting. No one would be safe in their own home, unless they went to extreme measures to protect themselves, and people would have to. Our children wouldn’t be safe on the streets, far less safe than they are now! Moreover, the market system could not function under such a regime. Such a system would ring in epic poverty and famine. Everyone reading this article knows and understands this fact, but people are so brainwashed by the elite that as soon as I bring up a constitutionally empowered police of government, people have a visceral reaction against the idea.

The spurious arguments flow like a torrent. Some include… “it would be too expensive.” So, it isn’t too expensive to intrusively monitor three hundred million people to the nth degree, but it is too expensive to monitor a few thousand? “More bureaucracy is not the solution,” this ignores the fact that bureaucrats regulate every aspect of our lives, and grows like a kudzu vine strangling our economy and freedoms, but if government were held to Constitutional limits, the existing unconstitutional bureaucracy would have to be scaled back. “They would just get corrupt themselves.” This is the most pernicious argument for allowing the elite to continue in the honor system, crushing our liberty under the jack boot of government corruption. To believe that a Fourth Branch would necessarily become corrupt, one has to believe the local police, the State police and every other law enforcement agency is also utterly corrupt. If someone believes that, they must necessarily believe those agencies should be disbanded, putting the whole of society on the honor system.

Human nature is self interest. The market system twists our self interested nature into being rational maximizers, (civilized people). The difference is that a rational maximizer understands that his or her self interest is tied up in everyone else’s self interest. Our basic nature, (barbaric nature), is to follow our immediate self interest regardless of the consequences to society and others. The market system and American ideals have taught humanity the truth of Socrates argument in The Republic. That lesson is lost on those with political favor, because their self interest can be met outside of the market system simply by perverting it into it’s evil twin, crony capitalism. This is furthered by the corruptible elite who are also prevented from being rational maximizers by the lack of any real oversight.

There is not a nation on the face of our planet that would not benefit from policing the political elite. Even socialism would work better if it had a Fourth branch policing the actions of the political elite. Since the beginning of time people have sought ways to limit the political elite’s propensity to pervert government to their own self interests. Constitutionalism is a relatively new phenomenon. It has had limited utility because the political elite are still on the honor system. Once the political elite cannot use their offices for personal gain, without facing the imminent fear of prosecution and jail, government will shrink back to it’s Constitutional limits, the people will be prosperous and crime will dwindle. A Fourth Branch is a win win for society, culture and even government itself. The real winners however will be us, the people, stable government is a boon for everyone.

You can read more about it in my book, The Fourth Branch here; https://www.smashwords.com/books/view/277193

New World Order

Monday, March 17th, 2014

Dear Friends,

It seems to me… there is a push today to bring the entire world under one government. We see this in the expansionist policies of Russia, the push for a Caliphate and Chinese doctrine of dominance. Many of the world’s intelligentsia argue, the world would be better off if we were all under one government, and indeed that is the covert goal of the United Nations. It is to be the model for a world government, by the New Class, for the New Class. These are not the only examples but are the most overt. One world government is the dream of every tyrant that has ever lived, and with modern technology, it is becoming increasingly possible. The sophist arguments for it usually run along the lines of, war will be ended, it will usher in a new age of prosperity, or it would be more efficient. These are all spurious because they are not even remotely possible, but in fact, the exact opposite is the only conceivable outcome. If you like the life you have… you won’t be able to keep it.

China is at odds with every neighbor it has, from Japan to India. China demands the Senkaku islands from Japan, the Spratly islands from the Philippines, the entire South China Sea, Taiwan, the northern portion of Vietnam, two northern states of India, along with many others. Tibet, Mongolia and several other annexed countries are already under Chinese Communist dominance. With a skewed ratio of men to women, because of the one child policy, China has a restive and angry male population that is of age to fight in wars of aggression.

The great powers around the world have been emboldened by the weakening of the United States. Russia took two states from Georgia a few years ago, with no negative consequences, and now has taken the Crimean peninsula from Ukraine in all but word. Once this usurpation has played out Russia will have another piece of land under it’s control. Europe has been rendered impotent by Russia’s energy dominance, fueled by their unwillingness to exploit their own resources, and so may fall into the Russian sphere, but more likely will become part of the Caliphate. Only time will tell the next property Russia eyes with avarice.

Obama’s best friends, the Muslim Brotherhood, have in their very charter, to restore the Caliphate. In order to achieve that end they must conquer over fifty nations around the world. In their crusade to restore the Caliphate, there is no bridge they are not willing to cross, including terrorism, genocide and revolution. The US, under Obama, is more than happy to help, no matter the cost in human suffering.

The UN was supposedly initiated to stop wars, genocide and intrusions on human rights, but they side with tyrants, oppressors and dictators in every instance. The only nation that regularly comes under UN sanction is Israel. The worst human rights violators run the UN’s council on human rights! This is nothing new however. The New Class, (the world’s intelligentsia), have dreamed of a socialistic world order, run by them, for over a century. The UN is the structure and human suffering is the means.

Technology has progressed to the point that a world government could have every human being on Earth under surveillance. The level of oppression that data mining, mass data storage, miniature cameras, satellite surveillance etc… could give a world government, would guarantee tyranny for the people of the world in perpetuity and without recourse.

When the would be autocrats of the world espouse and end to war, universal prosperity and unlimited freedom, they are lying in the worst way possible. History shows unequivocally that government never gets smaller, more free or is ever able to provide prosperity, it only gets bigger, more intrusive and thereby people suffer famine and oppression, in every case. The nature of government and the human beings that run it is why this is always so.

Now that the US has been lowered by Barack Obama to powerlessness on the world stage the brakes are off. Every conniving tyrant slathers at the chance to grab as much of the pie as possible. Those who would restore and protect freedom, have no stomach for it, while those who would be tyrants, like vampires have an unlimited thirst for blood.

Once the world has been chopped up, the biggest world war ever imagined will start. There is no other possibility. With the proliferation of nuclear weapons, induced by the actions of Obama and past US Presidents, as well as Russia, China and Europe, the next world war will be nuclear. Perhaps the human race will be destroyed in a radioactive holocaust, perhaps we will be simply subjugated, but no matter how it ends… it will end badly. Barring divine intervention, unless some smart people who have political power, standing for free markets and liberty, can pit the various factions, China, Russia the UN and the Caliphate, against each other, the war for the world will go on as scheduled.

Sincerely,

The Ukrainian Riots

Monday, January 27th, 2014

Dear Friends,

It seems to me, the people of the Ukraine are ripping mad, and they have every right to be. They have been deceived and stabbed in the back over and over. The riots that have been going on now for weeks in Kiev are the manifestation of that anger. Now cities around Ukraine are joining the protests. Like in the United States and the World over, politicians in the Ukraine believe they can run on a platform, then rule in direct opposition to that platform without consequence. In the US politicians get away with it, with the help of the unbiased media, but in Ukraine their feet are being held to the fire. A real fire as it turns out. The Ukrainian government has offered several concessions to the protesters but they are too little too late. Perhaps the riots won’t end, until either the government stomps them down like the Chinese communists did in Tienanmen Square, or the government falls, but there is a way to solve the problem in both the Ukraine and the World over.

People have a great ability to forgive. We understand that others are flawed human beings as are we. Upon a continued assault however, no person no matter their demeanor, will remain calm forever. Politicians in both the Ukraine and the US run as conservatives and libertarians but rule as tyrants and socialists. This enrages the people who voted for those corrupt politicians based, as it always turns out, on lies. No one can stand ceaseless irritations without eventually becoming irritated and that is where the Ukrainian people are. How long will it take for the American people to wake from our slumber?

One of the concessions offered by the Ukrainian president is the amending of their Constitution. What the unbiased media fail to report, or even understand, is that if a President can unilaterally amend the Constitution… there is no Constitution. The Protesters understand this basic fact of Constitutional rule, but the elite in the media and government don’t, (or don’t want to). A Constitution is supposed to be a document that limits the power of the elite over the people. If the elite can change it willy nilly, it does not limit their power, but give their reign a faux legitimacy. If the protesters allow the Constitution to be changed by the political elite, it will be changed back again the moment the exigency of the riots are over, giving the government unlimited power again.

History has not been kind the the people of the Ukraine. They have suffered under the Mongol hordes, they have faced wave after wave of Muslim invasions, they have suffered under the Tzar’s tyranny and oppression and have endured under Stalin and his artificial famine. The unfortunate people of the Ukraine have no history of freedom and liberty to fall back on. They have only famine, oppression, war and slaughter to remember. Now they have an opportunity to forge a different path, one free from oppression, and they are seizing it. I pray to God they can pull it off, their lot has been so bad for so long, if anyone deserves peace and prosperity, it is the people of the Ukraine.

Clearly what is needed in the Ukraine is laissez faire capitalism, a strongly limiting Constitution and a NUMA to enforce it. Otherwise the government will continue to run amok, progressing to socialism and tyranny, as they are in the US. Barring that, as soon as a new government comes into power, it will act the same as the old one. A NUMA would change the paradigm in Ukraine for the better by holding the political elite to the Constitution’s limits. This is something very few political leaders have been held to, since the dawn of time, anywhere. Power must be limited else it limits the people. We have seen this played out throughout time and the World over.

Only time will tell how the protests in Ukraine will turn out. The strong likely hood is that some new dictator will emerge, charismatic and ruthless. History is not on the side of the people. The normal state of humanity is under the thumb of a tyrant, it is the exception where and when a people escape from it and forge a new way. The US did for a while, but the current of politics always wears away the people’s resolve, eventually eroding the limits put on government by Constitutions. Only a Constitutionally empowered branch of government could ever hope to have the authority to contain the avarice of the political elite. Without a NUMA, Ukraine will fall back into oppression, as the US is progressing to.

Perhaps it is a pie in the sky dream that Ukrainians could have liberty but every man woman and child yearns to be free in his or her heart. Freedom has lifted millions of people from poverty while arbitrary rule has lowered billions to slavery. I am on the side of the protesters, I believe liberty is the only way to lift all boats, and liberty is the protester’s goal, but the protesters need to have a plan. To that end, a NUMA along with a strictly limiting Constitution, would do just that. Let’s pray it happens and that the political current doesn’t wash away the hopes and dreams of the Ukrainian people. God speed and God bless the Ukrainian people… and may God help us here in the US.

Sincerely,

John Pepin
