Do Nothing Republicans

Dear Friends,

It seems to me, the Republicans are determined to lose the midterms. They have done everything in their power to do so and I suspect they are only just getting started. They control the House, Senate, and the Presidency, yet sit on their hands. The attorney General is a republican appointee and she hasn’t indicted a single Russiagate hoaxer, or Epstein client, Democrat or Republican. She hasn’t even fired the lawyers in her own department who participated in various crimes. The Republicans can’t even pass the Save Act? Seriously? They couldn’t pass a budget. The Democrats unfunded ICE. The Republicans were powerless to stop them. Can you imagine the Republicans while out of power accomplishing anything, let alone unfunding a department? The war is just icing on the cake.

I judge people’s intentions by their actions, not by their words. If someone were to tell me, for example, that they loved popcorn, but every time I had some and offered it to them, they retched, withdrew, and almost vomit then say, “Not now, thanks.” Then they cover their nose from the odor… would you think they like popcorn, or their words don’t match their truth? Clearly, their words don’t match their truth. The same can be said of Republicans. They claim to want to win the midterms, and keep the utterly insane Democrats out of power, yet are working diligently to hand them the midterm elections. That is a stark tension between actions and rhetoric. How do we reconcile these opposites? Pragmatism generally agrees with me and judges by actions not by rhetoric.

When Republicans won the House, Senate, and Presidency, they had a historic opportunity to move the US and indeed the whole world away from the poverty of central planning and closer to the prosperity of the free market… but they failed utterly. They stabbed voters in the backs by not passing a tenth of the things they ran on. Then they watered down the ones they did pass. Voters are still sore about that. Imagine being a waitress and voting Republican for the first time expecting a tax cut, and finding that you don’t qualify because you work two jobs? That is a kidney stab many never recover from. The no taxes on overtime pledge was dropped instantly. Trump moved the dial with executive orders but the House and Senate have stabbed him and us in the back like a jailyard shivving.

Inflation, immigration, and war were the primary movers of voters. Trump solved the immigration crisis on day one, with a presidential order… but the do nothing Republicans have done nothing to back it up with legislation. This means the crisis will be back the second a Democrat is president. The Republicans running the House and Senate can’t even get a budget passed despite profligate spending. They have increased the money supply by eleven percent!!! So even if the economy grows at five percent, that means six percent inflation! But the economy never grows at five percent, especially during an energy shock… one or two percent is more likely. That means nine or ten percent inflation. So much for Republicans getting a handle on inflation. Then there is the war.

We thought Trump was going to keep us out of foreign wars. A huge amount of people voted for him for that reason alone. Republicans ran on keeping us out of “foreign entanglements…” yet here we are. In a war with Iran and apparently Trump didn’t have a single duck in a row. There is no government in exile to take over, no plan, and no constitution for everyone to get behind, there is just bombing to the Stone Age. Soon probably, boots on the ground in a zero-strategy war. So much for no more wars. The spike in energy prices could cause a recession, even as the government increases the money supply exacerbating the inflation. Yes, Republicans are doing everything in their power to lose the midterms. They’ll get their comeuppance, when Democrats get power and jail them for wrong think.

Sincerely,

John Pepin
