Limericks

Dear Friends,

When the nation falters while the elite live large,

The country’s listing and moving like a barge,

Inflation erodes,

Crime corrodes,

And the fault rests with the people in charge.

In some places ideas just can’t be kenned,

Invention threatens the paradigm to upend,

A zealot’s ingratiation,

There will be stagnation,

In a land where innovation means your end.

The elite are well known to be fraidy cats,

Worried about ideas, fleas, and dingbats,

On an FBI watch list,

Catholic nuns amiss,

Now they’re afraid of men in tuxedos and feathered hats.

There is a place that’s freedom’s nexus,

Where people drive trucks not a lexus,

From the Cross Timber’s hills,

To the southern bogs and rills,

That place of liberty has always been called Texas.

Wrong speak makes us haters despicable,

Gate keepers expose our racism invisible,

Wrong think is sin,

So take it all in,

Because a raw nerve’s outrage is predictable.

Sincerely,

John Pepin
