The Measure of Despotism

Thursday, January 28th, 2016

Dear Friends,

It seems to me, there is no more certain proof government has become utterly corrupt, than when investigative journalists are indicted, for investigating crime. Government that is corrupt is a form of despotism. Authoritarianism is characterized by arbitrary rule. That has been the case since the first human governments formed. Arbitrary rule is where laws are randomly applied and indiscriminately created. Those with political favor are above the law while those who lack political favor are below it’s protections. This is the case around the world where authoritarian governments rule. In fact, arbitrary rule is one way of measuring a government for the level of it’s despotism. Nations with law that is applied equally, without prejudice and created for the benefit of all, protect liberty, while those countries that have different standards depending on the person the law is applied to, protect some while abusing others and create law for the benefit of some protected class, are despotic. By this measure, more than some empty claim of democracy, a nation can be truly judged to be despotic or free.

In the past Turkey has been the most free of all Muslim nations. Under the Constitution of Ataturk Turkey’s citizens were allowed freedom of speech, religion and assembly. In the course of the centuries the people of Turkey have turned away from limited government and embraced despotic rule. They have elected an authoritarian. This is proven beyond any doubt by the treatment of journalists in Turkey. Some of which are being tried as you read this for exposing Erdogan’s corruption and face life in prison. Turkey, by this measure has become a tyranny, despite ostensibly being a “democracy.”

The US has taken an alarming jog into arbitrary rule in the last few decades. Many examples abound of this change in the nature of the US government, but few are as obvious or as compelling in making the case as the IRS targeting conservative groups and the recent indictment of the Center for Medical Progress, for exposing Planned Parenthood’s crimes. Both examples show, beyond a doubt, that law in the US is arbitrarily applied, is prejudicial, depending on the political standing of the individual or organization to which it is applied, and is created for the benefit of politically favored groups. Those people who advance the cause of arbitrary rule, and therefore despotism in the US, love to claim the US is a democracy, as if that justifies the descent into authoritarianism.

In a democracy, if the majority want your property they vote it away from you and take it by force, in a constitutional republic, the majority cannot take your property. Obviously the first is a form of authoritarianism. Regardless of the size of the authoritarian group, be it one man or a majority of the people, there is tyrannical power at work. Moreover, that the majority can simply vote to take the property of random people, arbitrarily, is the definition of arbitrary rule. In a democracy the majority rules arbitrarily. In a republic however, the actions of government is limited by the Constitution. This should be clear as glass to anyone with an open mind and enough brain power to operate their innards. The US was set up as a constitutional republic with limited power so tat arbitrary rule could not be applied yet here we have it, arbitrary rule, promoted by those who claim the US is a democracy.

Rome after Caesar was a despotic government but was called in name a republic. It had in theory, limited government that was supposed to protect the rights, property and lives of it’s citizens, but in fact the Caesar, backed by the praetorian guard, had the arbitrary ability to take what he wanted, apply laws randomly depending on the person’s political favor, and create law benefiting his political allies. You can call a snake an owl, but that doesn’t give the snake feathers, nor does it confer on the snake the ability to fly, it is still a snake. Calling a nation that practices arbitrary rule a democracy, republic or free, doesn’t make it so. The practice of arbitrary rule is the measure of authoritarianism regardless of what the elite want the people to think. The US has come very far indeed, very far away from it’s founding as a Constitutionally limited republic, to a chimera, one that calls itself free but is in fact has arbitrary rule. Unless we recognize it, and demand a return to Constitutionally limited government, we are complicit in the enslaving of our own children to a despotic government. I ask you, are we really that stupid and vile?

Sincerely,

John Pepin

Quality of Mercy in a Tyranny

Thursday, June 18th, 2015

Dear Friends,

It seems to me, the quality of mercy of our rulers is hard and sharp, but they expect and demand from us a soft and easy mercy, this is the way of a despot and not a human hearted legislator. The adage, “Ignorance is no excuse under the law…” speaks to this truism, in that those of us who don’t write law and have only a very limited access to knowledge of the law, are held to every word and letter, but those who write law, adjudicate law and enforce law, have as a ready excuse ignorance, as a means to escape the punishments of the law. Moreover, the law grows like a Kudzu vine smothering every human endeavor with strings that bind, so that we need permission from our rulers to do anything, yet they have total freedom of action, even to the point of scoffing at our calling for Constitutional limits. This has become so pervasive, even a blind and deaf man could see and hear there is despotism, while the “learned and wise” claim there is ever greater liberty because in our society today, perversions are rife.

I say “rulers” because those who hold elected office are no longer republican in spirit, polity in action or human hearted in mind, they rule us as Dionysus did Syracuse. When a legislator is above the law, they are no longer a representative but a ruler in definition even if they call themselves a representative. Like in the days of Rome after the republic ceased to exist, the Praetorian guard and emperor called Rome a republic but like today, to call the Roman empire or Western civilization a republic is like calling a fish a bird, calling it so does not make the fish able to fly nor does the name change the nature of the object.

Mercy is no longer in the vernacular of government the term they like to use is justice while justice is the last thing they seek. Thrasymachus said it best that the “great men” in society are not just and should not be just, they should only claim to be just as a means of controlling the “little people” who only seek to live their lives in peace. Thrasymachus’ great men are the equivalent of our senators, Presidents and judges, they seek to appear just but in reality are not just. This is because justice requires as a prerequisite, mercy. Justice without mercy is not justice but injustice. In other words, justice is an objective good, not a subjective one, our rulers have made justice a subjective good.

Our rulers are daily caught in one scandal or another, when they are, a careful examination of their every excuse is ignorance of the law, and their ignorance requires from us mercy. President Obama claims ignorance of scandal, ignorance of the law and ignorance of our Constitution almost every day. Since he is ignorant of the law we are supposed, and many of us do, forgive his transgressions in supplying arms to Mexican drug lords and Islamic terrorists. When he claimed he learned about this or that scandal from the papers as the rest of us did, he is claiming ignorance of what is going on in his administration and when he calls for us to relinquish our Constitutional Rights for political expediency he is claiming ignorance of our founding ethos. His calls to ignorance are met by our mercy.

If you or I were caught breaking whatever arcane regulation however, no matter how esoteric or absurd, we are held to that regulation by the full weight of the government, no mercy and no quarter is given us. Encroach a newly defined wetland and face severe punishment, ignorance is no excuse for us, but it is a perfectly valid excuse for them. When Tim Giethner and Charlie Rangle were caught chiseling on their taxes they claimed ignorance, you or I would have faced penalization for far less. Hillary Clinton claimed ignorance about the Benghazi terrorist attack on the anniversary of 911, having a private e server for her government emails, FBI records in her possession among a host of other crimes you or I would face jail time for, but was given the mercy she denies you and I. Bernie Sanders claimed ignorance when he became embroiled in the House Banking scandal weeks after his election into that office… the list is endless of examples where the elite claimed ignorance of the law and were given the mercy they deny us.

Growing law and our increasing ignorance of it diminishes our liberty wearing it away like water erodes salt. Every day more regulations are written outside the Constitutionally prescribed means in the dark of the bureaucracy and laws are passed without our rulers even reading them. Darkness is rapidly descending on our government and conceals it’s workings more every day. Today it is impossible for anyone to know all the laws, regulations and ordinances we are subject to but we are held to them by an iron fist, and everyone knows and iron fist lacks mercy, it is naked power.

When a people are held to the law, while the lawgivers are not, it is absurd to claim the people live in liberty. Call it what you will but naming a fish a bird does not make it so, their natures are vastly different. Moreover, to call despotism liberty is merely a Machiavellian scheme to create a system of injustice by deceit. The fact is further proven by the fact our rulers demand our mercy for their ignorance without reciprocal mercy given us for ours, despite the fact they pass the law and we are increasingly kept in the dark of it. When a people are subject to laws they not allowed of know, while those that make the laws are not, in a system where mercy is only given the the elite and the people are denied mercy, when justice is for appearances not universal… the darkness of despotism has covered the land, regardless what it is called. It can be said that the quality of mercy is hard and sharp…

Sincerely,

John Pepin

A Corrupt People can Never be Wealthy

Wednesday, April 29th, 2015

Dear Friends,

It seems to me, when the people of a nation become so corrupt their word is no more valuable than a turd, business cannot be done. When business cannot be done the economy collapses like a popped balloon. Any economy requires, as a prerequisite, that people be trustworthy, even a socialist economy. In a socialist country, or a country turning to socialism, the morality of the people is eroded until they become utter reprobates like their leaders, and is why socialism fails every time it is tried. Which brings us to the thrust of this article, that one of the major problems in the US economy, (and economies around the world), is that people have become so immoral, such reprobates, lazy and liars that even if the government got out of the way, the economy wouldn’t start growing again until the people got back a tiny bit of their morality and human heartedness.

The proliferation of lawyers in a nation is not a sign an economy is mature but that the people cannot be trusted. Attorneys themselves are largely to blame since the incentive for them is to break contracts, stab others in the back, create the conditions where no one can be taken at their word, and the moral get molested by the immoral, calling it serving their client’s needs. The collapse of integrity is a windfall for lawyers and so they push it. Today you can’t buy a cup of coffee unless there is legal paperwork in triplicate and signed by a third party… explaining the dangers of hot coffee, the terms and conditions of the sale, refund policy, ingredients, limited liability, potential health concerns from drinking coffee to access, and the specifications of the cup.

As people get screwed over by unscrupulous connivers they will increasingly turn to government to protect them. The government is always too happy to become more powerful, and never gives up a whit of power, so a corrupt people wratchet their government to despotism. More regulation makes it harder for a person to make money legally, and so more will turn to stealing, cheating and conniving to get ahead. Why work when that option is all but closed… and business is done by larceny anyway? In such a country the government will take advantage of the people, the strong will abuse the weak and the family will turn against itself.

Of course corruption starts at the top and flows down the social ladder like sewage. The leaders are never held to the same standards as everyone else, that has always been the case everywhere and at all times, which shows there has never been a standard but only arbitrary rule. Human history is nothing but a list of corrupt kings, emperors and Presidents. The more corrupt and evil the larger their name is in history texts. I have maintained for years that it is impossible to live in a cesspool without smelling like it. The very few people who have held positions of power, who were not so utterly corrupt they stank like a cesspit, have pushed against this paradigm of arbitrary rule. Most of them were murdered as reward for their singular service to humanity.

In the few times and places where the people have not been fully corrupted by their elites, those nations in those times have seen unbounded prosperity, social harmony and civil justice. When a man or woman holds themselves to their handshake, profit is based on value, not getting a line in a contract past an unsuspecting chump. When value is the basis of profit everyone profits. Those who provide the most value, profit the most, simply by being honest because honesty is value. The butcher gets money to provide for his family, the buyer gets meat for her table…

The market system’s superiority is based on the fact that value is traded not goods and services. Goods and services are the currency but value is what is actually traded. When people get value for their money both parties win. When both parties to a transaction win the economy of that nation is improved a little bit. Magnify both parties winning, over the tens of thousands of transactions a day in a populous country, and the economy is improved drastically every hour of every day.

Honest people can negotiate hard terms, but when the negotiations are done, they both stick to the terms they negotiated, the conniver, despot and confidence man trades in lies however. Those who trade in lies, not value, create the conditions where people will turn to government and lawyers to protect them from their own butcher, car salesman, Realtor and haberdasher. The more a people must turn to those in power to protect themselves, the more corrupt society will become, which in turn creates more corruption creating a feedback loop that can only end in despotism, poverty and endemic violence.

Look around the world, those places that are hell holes are all characterized by corrupt governments, corrupt people and corrupt courts. See for yourself, where the government is despotic, where the people are connivers, where the courts only enforce arbitrary power, aren’t they always unsafe, poor, and prone to social upheavals? Then ask yourself, what nation on this planet would you want to raise your children, one where the people are corrupt, the government is tyrannical and the courts serve the powerful… or one where the people can be trusted, the government is limited and the courts serve justice? You can make a small difference, be honest, trade in value and hold yourself to the same, or better yet, a higher standard than you do others. Lead by example.

Sincerely,

John Pepin

Election Integrity

Monday, November 3rd, 2014

Dear Friends,

It seems to me, for the democratic element of our republic to function, as democratic, first there must be honest elections, barring that there is no democracy only the tyranny of the powerful over the powerless. If someone wants to become a despot, all that is needed is to give the appearance of free and honest elections, but in fact so undermine the election process with fraud and vote rigging that there is no honesty to the election process at all. Of course to do such a thing is villainy of the highest order. History shows however, and we all know from experience, that people can be counted on to do whatever they can to get advantage, in this the political elite are far worse than the average man or woman, because there are almost never consequences to their wrongdoing. Elections that are rigged are not elections at all but coronations.

Since the democratic element of the United States is the essential means for our governors to get the consent of the governed, us, the integrity of the election process is essential. The United States is a republic, a mixing of Aristotle’s Right forms of government, despite the pervasive propaganda that the US is a democracy, one of Aristotle’s wrong forms. Aristotle’s right forms are, monarchy, aristocracy and polity, while his wrong forms are tyranny, oligarchy and democracy. His best form is a republic, a blending of two or more of the right forms. What the right forms have in common, is that they serve the needs of all people, and what is wrong with the wrong forms, is that they each serve the people with the power. Tyranny serves the monarch, oligarchy serves the aristocracy and democracy is the tyranny of the majority over the minority.

Perverting the democratic element of our republic turns the aristocratic element of our republic, the legislature, into oligarchy, it perverts the monarchical element, the President, into a tyrant, eliminating altogether the democratic balance. All this mischief is done by degrading the base of our system, which is democracy. It should be obvious that corrupting the foundation makes the edifice unstable. Each part of the government must necessarily change from serving all the people, rich, middling and poor, to serving themselves only. The President becomes a tyrant who only serves him or herself, the legislature becomes an oligarchy that seeks only more power and wealth… and the people follow their leaders and become self serving egoists as well. Clearly, no society or government no matter how constituted, can survive such depravity for long.

Those who might agree with what the corrupting faction is doing today, should take heed that no matter how much you might agree with them today, you may not tomorrow, but then it will be too late you have given them the power to do it, and given up your power to stop them. Many know there is blatant vote fraud but spuriously argue there is none because they want their guy to have power. They might believe their guy will do good with that power, but there is no case in history or in the future, that power gained by such means has led to anything but ruination for the people and the society. This is because power is like cocaine or heroin, in small doses they help with pain, but as the doses get ever larger, they fog the mind and corrupt the soul until the drug is all consuming. The addiction of the elite to power never leads to a good result, it can only lead to all of us loosing all that we have, our grace, our wealth and our children. All great civilizations have fallen thus.

It is by small steps that we race to Hell and by small crimes that great societies crumble. Voter fraud is by far the most corrupting form of small crime. Each instance may seem small but cumulatively they add up to great evil. Dishonest politicians can be dealt with, common crime can be cleaned up and foreign attacks can be beaten back, but rot from within hollows out the very center of a civilization. Once the center is gone collapse is imminent and nothing can stop it. Accepting vote fraud and election rigging is the surest sign a civilization is rotten from within. In 25 AD Titus Livius told the Roman people that unless they changed their ways Rome would collapse. He was called an idiot by the patricians and plebeians alike. Rome had lasted a thousand years and would last a thousand more. History showed Livy correct and everyone else wrong.

What Livy did have wrong however, is that it is never the people that corrupt a society, it is always the elite that introduce it, then pass it down to those they lead. Tolerating rigged elections guarantees corruption of the most pernicious sort… no matter how much you agree with the party doing it. That is because government must serve all else it is one of Aristotle’s wrong forms and will become despotic. Since democracy is the base of our system of government, election fraud that pulverizes the foundation, weakens the whole of our society. Therefore, if we don’t stand up to our leaders and demand vote fraud be eliminated, requiring those engaging in it be punished severely, our complacence will sow the seeds of our own destruction, enslaving our children to whomever rises in our place.

Sincerely,

John Pepin

Water No Longer Wets Us…

Wednesday, September 10th, 2014

Dear Friends,

It seems to me, our leaders want us to believe, that water no longer wets us and fire no longer burns. Taken from a line from the Rudyard Kipling poem, Gods of the Copybook Headings, it describes the absurdity we are expected, to not only believe but invest our lives, fortunes and the well being of our children in. From the War on Terror to monetizing debt what used to bad we are told is good and what was good is now bad. Our leaders have managed to break the most effective wealth creation machine ever invented in part by convincing us want is good and wealth is bad. They manage information via the unbiased news, insuring we never get the whole truth, only part truths, out of context and mixed with many lies. The path they have put us on can only lead to disaster.

The war on terror is a good example of this. Our leaders have placed members of the Muslim brotherhood in key positions of national defense. This despite the fact Al Queda, ISIS, Hamas, and many other terrorist organizations are a spin off of the Muslim Brotherhood. Even the founding documents of the Muslim brotherhood says they seek a Caliphate. No sane person would put someone who has sworn to be an enemy in a position to decide our strategy against them, but someone who is convinced water will no longer wet us and fire will no longer burn, would do it and call it a good turn.

Monetizing debt, we are told, is the only way to escape the economic doldrums the elite have put us in. History is adamant that such policies always lead to economic collapse by run away inflation. History is filled with examples where printing money to gin demand has led to disaster, Wiemar Germany, Argentina, Czechoslovakia, Colonial America, the list goes on and on. There is not one example where printing fiat money did not destroy a nation’s currency. Today however, we are to believe that water will no longer wet us and fire will no longer burn, and inflation can never return.

Our leaders tell us insistently they would never become tyrants and that Our Constitution is an outdated document. Ruth Bader Ginsburg, a Supreme Court Justice, entrusted with protecting our Constitution, said as much in a speech a few years ago in Egypt. She said if she were writing a Constitution today, she would not use the outdated American example, but the South African communist one instead. We are to believe that today’s leaders would never become despots because they care too much to do that. History on the other hand, is filled with examples of nations giving up their freedom to those who claimed to be human hearted, the story of Dion in Plutarch’s lives is a perfect example. Modern wisdom is, human nature has changed, or in other words, water no longer wets us and fire no longer burns, the goodness of our leaders is a trait that can be learned.

Even socialism is sold to us as a wonderful fix for all the problems that plague humanity. History is adamant that every time socialism has been tried, it has resulted in famine, slaughter and tyranny. Yet our progressive leaders, especially in academia, claim real communism has never been tried! Millions buried in rice paddies in Cambodia might disagree. But this time it will be different we are assured. Socialism will make every one equal, eliminate disease, conquer death, put an end to war and cause benevolent space aliens to land and help us… because they will be so impressed at our advanced social evolution. Water will no longer wet us and fire will no longer burn, the future is great and enlightened, and people will never more yearn.

Once a people have become transfixed with “magic,” it is hard to get them to look behind the curtain, especially if we are told by the unbiased media things are going great, if not in our own lives at least in everyone else’s. It takes strength of will and requires we use our brains to deny the dangerous fiction we are being sold. Those that do will always be vilified by those seeking to trick us into damaging our self interests, and the interests of humanity as a whole, in favor of their narrow selfish interests. If we fall for the delusion we have no one else to blame. Because we know in our hearts, water will always wet us and fire always burns, to ignore reality ensures, the Gods of the copybook headings, with terror and slaughter return.

Sincerely,

John Pepin

The Logic of Liberty

Wednesday, July 2nd, 2014

Dear Friends,

It seems to me, chaotic liberty is the single best means to societal prosperity, as controlled dependence is the best means to universal poverty. This is true not only in an economic sense but in humanistic terms as well. When people live in liberty, we must self control and by doing so we focus our minds, strengthen our spirit and become self reliant, chaotic liberty makes us more human. It is in a focused mind, spirituality and self reliance that we gain the economic advantages of liberty. Controlled dependence dulls the mind, crushes the spirit and destroys self reliance, in short controlled dependence reduces human beings to mere selfish animals. Human heartedness grows in liberty and shrinks in dependence. This is so obvious it is sad that government should seek to put people into a state of dependence while eliminating liberty. Because by doing so, it is equally as clear that diminishing humanity to a herd of egoistic animals, that see their fellows as a means instead of an end in themselves, government undermines the very argument for government.

That is not to say Chaos is liberty or that control is dependence, it is to say that some level of personal chaos is requisite for liberty and dependence breeds people who must be controlled. If a people who have become dependent are thrust into a state of liberty, chaos, violence and poverty will immediately result. If a different people who have become used to liberty are forced into dependence there is a faux sense of control. In a state of liberty, people self control and are do not need a heavy handed government to force them to be virtuous, but where people are dependent, people do need a tyrannical government, to enforce civil equanimity. The one is because the people self regulate and the other because people have lost the ability to self regulate.

When people are used to living in liberty we must control our emotions, actions and thoughts. When living in a state of liberty, everyone is at liberty, and so disturbing the civil weal is counter productive. People learn this lesson at an early age when they live in liberty. Laws need not be draconian to keep people from each others throats because people have learned to be self controlled. The society becomes more mature, civil and polite. Moreover, when people are self controlled and at liberty, it is the nature of the human being to seek to better him or herself. As each improving their situation all of society is economically improved.

Those poor shells of human beings that have become used to living in dependence never grow out of childhood. They become disconnected from the greater society and demand their wants and needs be met by someone else. Since the very definition of dependence is to be dependent on someone else, the fruits of another’s labor, for everything, so dependent people see others as a means to their own ends, instead of ends in themselves. To put it another way, people who have become used to being dependent see others as things and not as human beings. It is much easier to steal from a thing, the morality of killing a thing is irrelevant and you don’t open the door for a thing that is handicapped. Civility in society is destroyed and all that matters is instant gratification. This shows that controlled dependence is the path to chaos while chaotic liberty is the path to civilization.

How to change people who have become used to controlled dependence into self controlled, spiritual, civil and focused human beings? Obviously if liberty were thrust upon them they would devolve to a state of anarchy. We have seen this many times in history. A people get liberated, not by their own action, and the entire society falls into violence, chaos and corruption. The means to maturing a people is by the elite, the leaders of society, leading by example. The leaders must be spiritual, self controlled and honest. That would be a giant step but not all that is required. A market system must also exist. This is because the market system trains people to be human. If someone comes into your store to buy a couch, you care nothing if they are Hindi, Asian or Hutu, those groupings become subservient attributes to their being buyers. If the way to get ahead in a society is to meet the needs and wants of others, people will happily become civil, spiritual and self controlled.

Unfortunately governments prefer people to be dependent. Dependents have no independent voice only as a screaming mob can they get heard. If government likes what the chanting mob says they simply give in and are seen as benefactors, if government doesn’t like the message they clamp down violently and are seen as the protectors of societal tranquility. Since the reason political parties exist is to get and hold power, nothing more nothing less, and dependents depend on their benefactors, if those benefactors are a faction of government, that faction can count on their dependents for support against other political factions. This is not only a path to getting political power but of holding it as well. This is why there have been so very few examples in human history of liberty, and so many of dependence, poverty, and despotism.

Sincerely,

John Pepin

Obama Care, Fast and Furious, National Security vs Liberty and Freedom

Monday, June 25th, 2012

Dear Friends,

It seems to me, the more you stir a stench the more it stinks, and the stench coming from Washington stinks to high heaven. The pending Obama care decision from the Supreme Court will in large part decide the future role of government in the lives of citizens. The looming contempt of Congress vote in the House of Representatives, will show if the republicans there have any real chutzpa, or if they are the poltroons we think they are. The continuing leaks of highly classified national security secrets to the unbiased press, historically, would have justified a special prosecutor, but today we are told, a supporter of Obama is sufficient to investigate this damming case. Despite the fact, there have been measurable diminishments in our national security, while all the evidence points to a high ranking official in the White House. These are momentous times we live in. We will either be called the most stupid generation or the most enlightened by posterity. They are the ones who will suffer the calamities our lack of wisdom will visit on them or the rewards of our virtuous action.

The role and nature of the US government going forward depends on the ruling of the Supreme Court. If the Court goes the way it did in Wickard vs Filburn then we are in dire shape. The role of government will forever be enlarged, to the point we as citizens have no control of our government, while our government has total control over us. We will live in fear of our government while they will have absolute antipathy for us. There is a term in the dictionary for this state of affairs… it is called tyranny. Benign tyranny is still tyranny.

The case of Holder’s contempt vote is less obvious yet carries just as much moment. The democrats are calling the vote a nakedly partisan attempt to paint Holder in a bad light. Nancy Pelosi has claimed it is only because Holder is suing several States to protect the “right” of dead people and non citizens to vote in our elections. The merit of dead people and non citizens “voting” is not even debatable, by allowing people not legally allowed to vote, to cast ballots, undermines the very nature of a representative republic. To claim that to scrub illegal votes from the roles is a partisan position, shows the pernicious sophistry of Nancy Pelosi’s rhetoric, and does nothing but misdirect the debate.

The claim it is merely a partisan attempt to vilify Holder is hypocrisy writ large. Even a cursory examination of recent history shows the underhandedness of this argument. Scooter Libby was sentenced to jail, for lying to a grand jury in a blatantly partisan attempt to vilify President Bush, over the outing of Valerie Plame, (which had no effect on national security unlike the recent leaks). The Special prosecutor already knew who had told the unbiased media, which should have put the matter to rest, but the democrats pushed until they got the conviction of a Bush appointee to jail. Regardless of the fact, known at the time, he had nothing to do with the original charge, and was simply confused about the specific wording of a conversation with a reporter, several years earlier. To have gone to such great lengths then, and to act offended today, is hypocrisy at best and outright criminal at worse.

These are truly important issues. The nature and role of the US government is at stake. Shall we remain a Constitutional Republic, with limited government, or shall we become command and control like North Korea, where the Constitution means whatever the Elite tell us it does. Like the side of Orwell’s barn… where some are more equal than others. Can the government send guns into a friendly country, to assist drug lords who are fighting an existential war with the legitimate government, resulting in the verified deaths of over 300 Mexicans and at least 1 US Federal Agent, with no investigation and no consequences. Can the government escape all oversight even when they put our national security at risk for political gain?

These questions will decide the fate of our own children, but moreover, they will decide the fate of the World at large. The US has been a force for good in the World despite the spurious rhetoric by those engaged in the slaughter of their own citizens. So, it is not only the children of the US Citizen that are at risk, it is the fate of children around the World, that hang in the balance. Will our elected officials and appointed judges, make the right decisions and protect the traditional US value of limited government, or will they change the course of history, rendering the US Constitution impotent and thrust the World into oppression? The cowardly politicians might back down, allowing corrupt politicians to win, destroying the Constitution and undermining the concept of free and fair elections, eliminating all oversight of elected officials, and empowering those that want a World despot. But, in the end, as Saint Agustin said, “People get the government they deserve.” Who is really to blame for this reek, them… or us?

Sincerely,

John Pepin
